AVA ZARAHI SHAKIB,
they don't know about us
twenty three, shakib, model, jessica lowndes
ITS TOO LATE TO GO,
it's getting light out
”So, Ava Shakib. That’s an unusual name. How did that happen?”[/blockquote]
“I’m half Iranian on my father’s side, Shakib is a pretty common name in Iran.”
”I see, that’s interesting. Have you ever been to Iran?”
“I lived there until I was nineteen, in Qom. My dad was a pilot so we were pretty well off. Living in a big house and having servants was quite common over there, we had three servants and a maid. As well as the cook. We were looked after but I was never spoiled, my father was Muslim and really strict so I was always taught as he saw fit. I liked living in Iran, but I liked the country more than my life style. It was hard.”
”Do you follow that religion?”
“No. When I was younger I did, it was a big deal and I never thought to question it, but, I don’t know, I like to think I’m more open minded. I mean, I didn’t leave home and immediately think ‘Ok, I’m going to go against everything I’ve been taught’, I just want to make my own morals and values and stuff. My father was a really devout Muslim, he thought modelling was as good as prostitution, which made it really hard to pursue. My mom respected his religion but she didn’t follow it, she knew that I should be able to do what I wanted, but he was an angry man and she didn’t want to interfere. I was able to model when he was away with work, but I think him being Muslim kind of hindered my progress.”
”I see. So tell me about yourself.”
“Uh, I’m twenty three, I’m a model but I love styling too. I’m doing a degree in Fashion at UCLA part-time so that I can move into that when I’m too old to model. I’m more well known in places like Iran and Bahrain, as a model, but I’ve done some biggish campaigns here too. I’m a Leo, and I guess my personality fits that. I’m quite fiery and impulsive, and some people don’t get that. I can be blunt but I’m always honest and loyal, and I guess that makes up for the bad stuff. I know most people will see I’m a model and automatically think ‘Oh, she does nothing’ but I’m actually really hard working. If I’m not studying for university, I’m doing as much as humanly possible to make my career happen over here, because that’s what I want. I’d say I’m romantic, but more of a realistic romantic. I know no one is going to come whisk me away on a horse, but I like the idea of sweet little things. I’ve never had a long term relationship, nothing longer than about 5 months really. I’m not a psycho or anything, I’ve mostly always parted on good terms with my exes, I don’t know. Maybe I just haven’t met the right person yet.”

Jacob was a few steps behind, maybe a little more, but it was a gap he could close in about three strides. Whether he admitted it or not, he was sensationally tall, compared to her at least, though it seemed to be a common trait in the pack. They were all built like buildings. Still, it was a comforting thing, Koda probably would have felt far more concerned over an actual attack from the leeches if the protectors of La Push were weak teenage boys. And girls. Though she still didn't like to think about Kaya mauling anything, it seemed rather uncharacteristic, though necessary, she supposed. Her gaze followed the sound as her name was called, grinning back to Jake as she stood stationary on the sand, blanket curled under her arm like a sleeping child. Settling to the floor, she folded her legs under herself, the way she always did. Any other way seemed horribly uncomfortable, which she vocalized at any given opportunity. Her eyes roamed up a little to meet Jake's as he knelt in front of her. Even crouched he still seemed vastly taller than what was fair for an eighteen year old. They hadn't been particularly close when Jake had begun to transform, but she had noticed it at school. He had seemed to grow an entirely measurable amount each day, making ungainly, thin boys of the rest of his male class mates. It had always been a fairly amusing feat, seeing him sandwiched between two of the said boys. She could remember their sideways glances at him, bewildered and wildly envious, there was more than one occasion she had had to stop herself from laughing.
Her slender hand sought out the bag as she knelt, attempting to pull the zip away from it's anchor, she seemed to have a complete inability to ever make zips work. Her gaze flickered between Jake and the parcel in her hands, though she was attentive, listening to him speak. As he spoke, she set the bag down, looking up at him for a moment in uncertainty. His hand was offered out to her, cleansing her doubt. Jacob would never drop her, it just seemed wholly impossible. Even ignoring the fact that she wasn't enough of a weight to faze him, she couldn't imagine him allowing her to slip from his shoulders. Even if he did seem caught up on Bella, he had imprinted on her. That gave her some confidence that he wasn't going to let any harm come to her, for whatever reason. After a motionless moment, she placed her willowy hand in his, pushing up from the ground to stand. Gingerly, she followed his instructions, gently climbing onto his shoulders. Her grip tightened as her footing was taken away from her, her fingers curling around his as she anticipated movement, a little wary, but excited all the same. Frivolous fun sounded like heaven right now, and in a moment or two, she would be in the air, laughing no doubt. Jacob seemed to be in a brighter mood than he had been for months, and she was damned if she wasn't going to take advantage of it. Ignoring seemed impossible for the eighteen year old, he drove her mad regularly, but ultimately, he could do nothing to make her stop trying. She wasn't sure it would be any different even if he hadn't imprinted on her.
"Okay... seriously don't" she said, her voice playful, though her hands were still snaked tightly around his. If she did fall, she doubted holding onto him any tighter was going to make a difference, but at least it made her feel better. "I bruise easily" she said with a grin, though she was aware he couldn't see. She felt tiny in her current position, like a little girl. People had always put her on their shoulders when she was younger, she was petite then as she was now, but it seemed more common then. No one had done it for years and now a little taller, and from a much greater height, it seemed like it might hurt a lot more if she somehow slipped. Still, she had to trust that she wouldn't and though it was possible, she didn't really see it happening. Koda was only a few inches over five feet, about five two the last time she checked, she was minuscule in comparison to Jacob, he wouldn't have a hard time catching her. "Okay" she said to herself, more than him. The wind hadn't picked up yet, the air was still relatively calm, that was good. She didn't want to blown off her perch. As she began to feel more comfortable on his shoulders, her gaze ventured away from the ground directly below her, casting lazily over the beach. It looked sort of pretty in the evening. Not Laguna Beach or anything, but it had it's own charms, it looked real, homely. The pebbles scattered a little way up the beach were bathed in a kind of milky glow, she had never really noticed before. Around the bonfires, they had always just looked blue.
Koda smiled to herself, she was so determined to make something positive from whatever rubble had been made of everyone's situation since the treaty was broken, and hear, carefree and happy, it seemed so easy. Jake had changed, it would of worried her if he hadn't been affected by everything, but he wasn't a totally different person. It was occasions such as this one that renewed her hope that they wouldn't be tormented forever, their problems would be solved and resurface in different forms, but they didn't have to eclipse everything. She felt overwhelmed at times, consumed by emotions that she wasn't exactly too thrilled to entertain. She worried more than she used to, and Koda wasn't a person given to worry, but it was the jealousy that bothered her most. Envy had never been a good fit for anyone, but it seemed impossible for that particular emotion not to strike her through her chest every time Jake's face fell at the mention of Bella. Right now, that feeling seemed so far away, another world almost, and though she knew it would be back again soon enough, she couldn't deny herself the enjoyment of playing on the beach with Jacob. It was his happier moods that allowed her to believe that she wouldn't be so concerned over his thoughts on Bella forever.
